Case Studies

Edinburgh Academy

The governors of this elite Edinburgh school wanted to invest in renewable energy partly to offset their energy bills and partly to showcase their renewable credentials to prospective parents and as an educational tool to the pupils. Having analysed their peak loads and fuel bills we recommended a 76kW solar pv system split between their state of the art gym and the older school block.

The results have been fantastic and their renewable electricity generation has been even better than expected. They have been so pleased with the results that we are currently looking at a commercial Air Source Heat Pump to remove their reliance on the gas grid. This will take advantage of the additional electrical generation from the solar pv as well as the non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive.

Inveralmond Brewery

The brewers of the popular Ossian beer in Perth were looking for a renewable solution to cut their energy bills so they got in touch to see if we could help them. All of their brewing components are electrically driven so it made sense to focus on this rather than a renewable heating system. As their electrical peak is during the day and they had a large south facing roof, we recommended solar pv and installed a 32kW system.

They are able to keep track of their generation through the SMA web portal and match their electrical loads to suit. They have seen a dramatic cut in energy bills in the 2 years since installation and a significant income stream through the solar Feed-in-Tariff.
